Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service Pipe Band is a civilian community
organisation affiliated to Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service. We are
predominantly a competing pipe band currently playing in grade 3B at RSPBA
organised competitions throughout the UK.
In addition to competitions we play at a number of parades and shows throughout
the year, mainly in the Greater Manchester and surrounding area’s. Most recently
we had the honour and privilege of playing with the famous Scottish Fiddle
Orchestra at the Symphony Hall, Birmingham. In more recent years we have been
involved in several large scale events included the first Manchester Day Parade,
St Patrick’s Day and St. George’s Day parades in Manchester, and playing on the
steps outside Manchester Town Hall as part of the St. Andrews day festivities.
Our bookings secretary is always interested to hear from any person or
organisation wishing to hire the band as either a full band or a mini band. We
also cater for individual solo playing engagements.
Anyone can join, irrespective of any lack of experience with a hose, or
connections to the fire service. We have members from all over the north west of
England. We're a friendly bunch with a wide spread of ages and backgrounds, and
we're always ready to welcome new members. If you haven't played for years but
feel like rejoining the pipe band world, or if you've never played and fancy
learning the pipes or drums from scratch, our experienced members of the band
are only to pleased to set you up on a teaching program.
